Parents who encourage and help their kids to learn spanish are allowing one of the best gifts they can ever give their kids.  Learning a second language can immensely broaden their horizons and give them skills to cope in an ever-widening world.

Since Spanish is now the third most spoken language in the world today, after english and chinese, it’s an obvious choice to choosing it as a second language.  And just think, as a parent, you can also help your kids learn spanish and study it right beside them!

There is a “new” word for this, and it’s called immersion.  Totally immerse your child in the atmosphere of learning spanish at home and they will carry it with them everywhere and speed up learning.

Immersion is a subconscious process where the child does not even know that he is learning.  It becomes so much a part of the surroundings that learning spanish becomes engrained.

And fun…  Because your child does not even know that he is learning.  This is all backed up by scientific research that shows that this is the easiest way for a child to learn spanish.

Totally surround your child in spanish.  As much as you can…  The brain kicks in and subconsciously does the work for them!

It’s been shown that this process works best between the ages of 0 to 12.  Maybe because the kids learn spanish and absorb it better during this stage.  But–adults also learn extremely well using the immersion method.

So, how to immerse your child in spanish?  Well, the easiest way is to make it fun.  Kids love to have fun (Who doesn’t?).  If they don’t know they’re being made to do something, it will be much more fun.

And what’s the most fun for them?  Playing.  And games…

There are many spanish learning programs available, a lot of them online, that use games as spanish lessons for kids.  There are some great ones with vocabulary games, audio games, verb games, etc.

Usually there will be a screen with pictures and the child picks a certain picture.  There will be a voice that says the spanish word.  And the word will be spelled out in english and in spanish underneath.

Sometimes they get 4 choices of what the right word should be and they get to pick the right one.  Fun!

Another fun way of learning involves the use of flash cards to help kids learn spanish.  Kid-friendly picture with the spanish word on the back.  Kids also love this…

It’s like having a home tutor on call 24 hours a day.  And a few programs are adult-friendly, too.  So you can learn right along with your kids.  Total immersion program.

Interactive audio has a picture, the word is spoken in spanish, then the child has to repeat the word back again.  Great way to learn quickly.

So, what’s the best way to help your children learn spanish quickly?

• Figure out how to totally immerse them in spanish.
• Find a babysitter that speaks spanish.
• Play spanish games on the computer.
• Figure it out!  Be creative about finding different ways to really immerse your child in thinking spanish.
• Speak spanish to your kids.  Suppose you don’t know spanish?  Learn along with them!

Research has shown that learning a foreign language can help to improve memory.  It can help your child do better on tests.  Learning spanish can also help a child’s ability to learn his first language.  There is no better gift that to help your kids learn spanish.
